in young adulthood (PND 60–69). According to preliminary data, when ethanol intake was equated for body weight, females consumed significantly more ethanol than males regardless of pretreatment with ethanol or water. Pretreatment with any dose of ethanol enhanced this effect. However, when we equated for the innate sex differences in voluntary ethanol consumption observed in adulthood, it appears males were more vulnerable to the subsequent increase in voluntary ethanol consumption in adulthood. These data highlight the importance of early ethanol history and the relative impact it has on later ethanol consumption in adulthood when assessing vulnerability to subsequent ethanol-seeking and consumption behaviors.
