Chunk #29 — DISCUSSION

Source
Differences in the profiles of DSM-IV and DSM-5 alcohol use disorders: implications for clinicians.

Text

under the DSM-5 (data not shown), only 1.3% had received help for alcohol problems in the past year, and the majority of these had sought help solely from nonmedical sources (e.g., 12-step programs, etc.). Thus, it would appear that few individuals will miss out on treatment that they otherwise would have received because of the DSM-5 exclusion of cases with a single abuse criterion.
