We observed the upregulation of multiple proinflammatory genes similar to previous descriptions, and some of these were altered by the treatment of CVC to block CCR2/5 signaling. As noted previously, some cytokine expression is increased prior to the infiltration of peripheral immune cells in other neuroinflammation models [28], which may provide an explanation for why CVC treatment only altered the expression of some inflammatory genes in the brain regions investigated.
