Slow wave power (<7 Hz) linearly decreased with increasing age. No significant age-related changes were observed for any other frequency band. Spectral power decrements were widespread across the scalp, affecting almost the entire sensor array. These findings are in line with previous research, showing decreases in delta and theta power during physiological aging171820. Moreover, the associations of spectral power with cognitive performance were expressed as interactions with age: for older participants, enhanced resting delta and theta power predicted improved neurocognitive function in tests assessing perceptual speed, working memory and cognitive control processes.
