Tobacco dependence was measured through participants reporting 3 or more of the DSM-IV tobacco dependence criteria (American Psychiatric Association, 2000) occurring within a 12 month period. Self-reported age of onset of tobacco dependence was used to make time varying covariates for survival analysis.
