for later comparison to appropriate controls. In this study, we not only establish a catalog of genetic variation in genes relevant to aging in healthy oldest old, we also use this data to ask whether current public SNP resources can represent this deeper variation. We find that, while HapMap tagSNPs are known to be very useful for representing common variants, they do not adequately represent uncommon variants for studies of uncommon phenotypes of interest like healthy aging.
