To examine if male and female never-quitters showed similar degradation in startle responses across the postcessation period, a LMM was conducted in which startle response was regressed on sex, group, stimulus valence, and session. A significant sex main effect, F(1, 107) = 5.54, p < .05, was found. However, sex did not interact significantly with any of the other predictors. We also repeated the final model and added age, race, depression history, typical smoking rate, years of smoking, baseline FTND score to the analysis. Adding these covariates to the model did not significantly alter the results.
