In summary, different neurophysiological, imaging, neuropathological and molecular biology methods have revealed a disconnectivity in schizophrenia patients—the underlying pathobiology still needs clarification, but alterations in the GABAergic and glutamatergic, NMDAR-mediated neurotransmissions might be possible candidates.
