Evaluation of model fit was assessed by examining the comparative fit index (CFI) (Marsh & Hau, 2007) and the root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA; Cole & Maxwell, 2003). Values greater than .95 are desirable for the CFI, while RMSEA values should be less than or equal to .05 for good model fit (Hu & Bentler, 1999). Based on these criteria, the hypothesized model fit well, χ2 (14, N = 300) = 20.90, p = .10, CFI = .96, RMSEA = .04 [CI = .00, .07]. Because 76 children (25%) were not administered the visual search task due to procedural changes in the protocol, all analyses were run both with and without these children. Results were highly similar, with all structural paths remaining significant and confidence intervals for indirect effects not containing 0. Thus, all analyses were run on the full 300.
