Sedative medications could introduce the slowing of EEG frequency (Montagu and Rudolf, 1983). Consequently, anticonvulsants and benzodiazepines in the study could shifts the dominant frequencies of EEG signals in BD patients, and it might have an effect on the comparison of EEG synchronization at rest as well. The possible effects of sedative medications on EEG synchronization cannot be characterized in a cross-sectional study, however. Inclusion of EEG measures in a controlled drug trial could be highly informative in future research.
