After birth, AF and PF pups were cross fostered with the rat chow fed (AD) fostering dams until postnatal day 22 to control the possible effect of changes in maternal behavior or physiology due to alcohol withdrawal after birth. Pups were then weaned and subsequently housed by treatment and sex and provided with rat chow and water ad libitum for the duration of the study. Male offspring from each litter were selected for each experimental group in order to prevent any gene homogeneity. After 60 days of birth, rats were euthanized and brain tissues were collected and stored at −80°C until use.
