PD and DLB are two neurodegenerative syndromes associated with deposition of alpha-synuclein-containing Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites within brainstem, limbic, and cortical neurons.92 In spite of a common molecular substrate, PD and DLB syndromes show important differences with regard to the timing and severity of symptoms.93 A proportion of patients with PD develop dementia in later disease stages (Parkinson disease dementia, PDD), clinically resembling DLB.93
