Motivated by this hypothesis, pathway analysis of GWAS data has led to new discoveries in the genetics of AD, and will likely become more important as pathway annotations and other resources continue to improve. The integration of data from GWAS, gene expression and whole-genome sequencing, which is becoming increasingly more available, will present new opportunities and challenges in the discovery of novel loci and pathways associated with AD.
