majority of GAW18 individuals fall between the HapMap CEU cluster and the HGDP Native American cluster but with proportional ancestry being quite variable. The individual ancestry results from the unsupervised analysis with reference population samples included are complementary to those provided by the supervised analysis of GAW18 with the ADMIXTURE software. Thornton et al. [2013] also found that an unsupervised ADMIXTURE analysis that did not include reference population samples performed poorly due to the relatedness in the sample, where proportional ancestry estimates were largely reflecting membership to the pedigrees contributing the largest groups of genotyped relatives in the sample.
