bipolar or schizoaffective disorder or schizophrenia, and no suspected bipolar-I disorder in a parent or sibling.10 In GenRED I, at least one affected sibling was directly interviewed. In GenRED II, MDD in a parent or sibling was documented by FIGS with the proband, supplemented when necessary by a telephone interview with a relative. Additional family history was obtained by FIGS. Because of the excess of female probands, we replaced some female GenRED I probands with a male sibling who met proband eligibility criteria.
