In preclinical studies using animal model systems, mostly in rodents, cannabinoids, whether exogenous or endogenous, seem to generally have an antidepressant-like effect. However, opposite effects were occasionally observed, due essentially to differences in the dosage, the species, the strains and the experimental design considered.
