the present study undoubtedly underwent varying degrees of subcortical white matter injury including injury to the CC, as evidenced by FLAIR MRI (see inclusion criteria); therefore, they presumably have varying degrees of healthy callosal axons allowing some (albeit reduced) functional connectivity with the contralateral hemisphere through this most parsimonious route. However, it is also possible that patients in this study demonstrate some interhemispheric connectivity via the use of the anterior or posterior commissures, or the dorsal hippocampal commissure in leiu of the CC.
