We derive an analogous result for a scenario involving two interacting SNPs under a simple interaction model. Specifically, suppose we type a marker SNP for each of the two causal SNPs, with the LD between each pair being and , respectively. We show that a sample size of roughly would then be required for equivalent power to detect the interaction as a test with sample size N that types the causal SNPs directly.
