similar climate prevailed in the 1990s, so clearly this is not a new problem for the field [see the mini-review by Deitrich and Harris, 68]. All of the points made so clearly in the earlier commentary continue to ring true today in 2017. For example, “If the purpose of the experiment is to learn about basic mechanisms that control behavioral reactions to ethanol in an animal model, then the amount of ethanol used in an in vitro experiment should be in the range of concentrations that bring about the behavioral reaction in the animal.”
