the past year except for mild marijuana use (no more than twice during pregnancy), the mother's average daily ethanol consumption was.50 oz or less and she did not engage in binge drinking (5 or more drinks per occasion) during pregnancy. During the phone screen, mothers were administered the Family History Research Diagnostic Criteria for alcoholism with regard to their partners' drinking (RDC; Andreasen, Rice, Endicott, Reich, & Coryell, 1986) and fathers and mothers were screened with regard to their alcohol use, problems, and treatment.
