Text

these sex-specific associations have implications for the efficacy of treatment options, but given the extreme dependence liability of opioid drugs, choosing a drug that will not be effective for its intended use in certain genotypes increases dependence liability while showing no treatment efficacy. Sex differences in drug efficacy alone should be enough to increase assessment and reporting of sex effects, but potentially increasing a negative outcome like drug dependence in one sex compared to the other is obviously an important consideration.
