Two variables related to internalizing tendencies were assessed. The Perceived Stress Scale (Cohen et al., 1983) is comprised of 14 statements rated on a five-point scale as to the degree to which life situations are appraised as being stressful (α = .79). The Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diener et al., 1985) is made up of five global statements that participants rate as to their agreement on a seven-point scale (α = .90). Both measures were validated initially in samples of college students.
