This provides further evidence for the potential of this drug combination in the treatment of alcohol addiction. In additional experiments with pioglitazone, activation of PPARγ markedly reduced the expression of somatic withdrawal signs in rats made dependent on alcohol following chronic intragastric alcohol administration (73).
