N400s, however, were small to correct solutions, equally large to all unrelated solutions and to distant, related solutions, and intermediate in size to incorrect solutions that were both close and related. Thus, although the neural systems need not be identical, it certainly seems that similar functional principles are at work during the processing of semantic/linguistic and arithmetic knowledge.
