Also important to note is that ADs not only share genetic risk factors amongst themselves but also with other internalizing phenotypes like MDD (15), obsessive compulsive disorder (40), and personality traits like neuroticism and extroversion (41). It will be important for future studies to examine this broader pleiotropic spectrum either through cross-disorder GWAS as previously conducted for other psychiatric conditions (42) or by including these additional traits directly in the phenotypic construction with the ADs. It is possible that, by including AD cases with comorbid MDD, the genetic overlap between these conditions has influenced our results.
