Fifth, we used Cronbach’s α as an estimate of internal consistency in order to correct the estimates of environmentality and environmental stability for measurement error. However, Cronbach’s α is an overestimate of measurement error in several situations, particularly when the measure is multidimensional (Schmidt, 1996). Thus, our models may have overcorrected for measurement error. With this limitation in mind, the corrected estimates should be interpreted as lower bounds of environmentality and upper bounds of environmental stability.
