reliable than clinical assessments, promoting the use of neuropsychological tools.14 It is a promising approach to move from personality dimensions defined at the complex level of the psychopathology derived from self or clinician reports, to more subtle traits with presumably more precisely definable neurobiological underpinnings. Neuropsychological tools may help to avoid the pitfalls related to the use of personality dimensions, yielding ‘stronger' endophenotypes.35 Although there is overwhelming evidence to support the role of impulsive–aggressive behaviors in suicide, not all suicides are mediated by impulsive–aggressive behaviors. Thus, impulsive aggression probably characterizes only a subgroup of patients with SB, and there remain a number of other vulnerability factors.
