Merging CSD and PCA methods into a generic ERP strategy is a powerful approach for advancing knowledge of cognitive dysfunction in schizophrenia. The present CSD-PCA findings replicate robust reductions of late old/new effects over left lateral temporoparietal, but not mid-parietal, sites in schizophrenia. In addition, they suggest that these abnormalities are specific to word recognition memory, implicating impaired phonological stimulus representation and/or encoding involving left parietal-temporal regions typically associated with language-related processing.
