We have seen that information on the population-genetic properties of individual populations and sets of populations is useful in understanding the features and limitations of GWA studies in diverse populations. Important roles for population-genetic data and modeling have been part of the planning for GWA studies from the early stages3,95; modeling efforts can now help in addressing concerns about the similarities and differences among GWA results in separate populations.
