a reasonable approach. When there is a large effect of a single gene, a number of corrections for multiple comparisons can be applied without creating many false negatives. Bonferroni corrections for multiple comparisons are advocated by some investigators, though they are generally agreed to provide a conservative correction [137, 138]. False discovery rate corrections can also be applied [139–141]. Permutation and Monte Carlo tests provide additional approaches [6, 142, 143].
