AD is greatly in need of disease-modifying treatments, and several pharmaceutical firms have been pursuing various agents. In 2008, Myriad Genetics tested tarenflurbil, the R-enantiomer of an anti-inflammatory agent (flurbiprofen) with expected amyloid β (Aβ) peptide–lowering properties, in a phase 3 CT for its therapeutic effect in patients with AD.
