of DA cell death in the weaver mouse have been proposed, however. One study has suggested that constitutively active GIRK2wv channels trigger activation of K-ATP (Kir6.2) channels in response to mild mitochondrial uncoupling in SNc DA neurons but not VTA DA neurons162 while other studies suggest a general susceptibility to oxidative stress (due to reduced thiol redox state) in DA neurons163. Weaver mice have additional developmental abnormalities that result in a complex phenotype including learning deficits, epileptic seizures, and motor disturbances (e.g. ataxia).
