We correlated the first principal component (PC1) of Per3 with 2837 published phenotypes in GeneNetwork, which include numerous behavioral traits related to stress and alcohol response. To evaluate the false discovery rate, the adjusted P-value was computed by Westfall and Young's multiple testing procedure.34 Briefly, we randomly permuted the PC1 data 1000 times. For each permutation, we computed the adjusted P-value of Pearson's correlation between randomized PC1 and 2837 phenotypes. The adjusted P-value was determined by ranking the correlation coefficient.
