The videotapes were coded by undergraduate trained research assistants who were blind to information about the participant groupings and experiment hypotheses. Coders completed macroratings of peer interaction dynamics following each observation task on the basis of their general impression of the interaction. Fifteen percent of the data were randomly sampled and coded by two coders for all codes to assess reliability and ensure that it remained at least at κ = 0.70, with an interrater agreement at 85% or more for macroratings.
