At each assessment, participants performed the “rotated heads” task of Begleiter et al. (1984). A series of stimuli representing the superior view of a schematic head were presented on a computer monitor positioned approximately 48 cm from the participant. Figure 1 illustrates the stimuli used in this task. On 80 of the trials, stimuli were presented with a cartoon nose and a single ear. Participants were instructed to press one of two buttons corresponding to the side of the head the ear was on as quickly but as accurately as they could. On half of these target trials, the nose was pointed toward the top of the screen. In these trials, an ear on the right side of the screen was on the right side of the head and an ear on the left side of the screen was on the left side of the head.
