associated with cognitive impairment, 51 and a recent report shows an association between genes that escape X inactivation and sex differences in the prevalence of comorbid musculoskeletal pain and posttraumatic stress symptoms after motor vehicle accidents. 52 There has been little study of the role of X inactivation in psychiatric disorders, but given the established association of inactivation with cognitive impairment and the known role of cognitive function as an endophenotype for some psychiatric disorders, this is a mechanism that deserves further consideration.
