The depressed smoker sample was 30% male with a mean age of 41.8 years (SD = 12.5). Of this sample, 69% were white, 10% were black/ African American, 2% were Asian/Pacific Islander, 8% were‘other’, 4% were multi-racial and 7% were Hispanic/Latino (assessed as a distinct racial category). The sample averaged 24.3 years (SD = 12.8) of smoking, 15.5 cigarettes smoked per day (SD = 10.1), indicating a moderate smoking rate; an FTND score of 4.0 (SD = 2.5), indicating a moderate level of nicotine dependence; and a CO reading of 15.35 p.p.m. (SD = 10.05), indicating recent use of cigarettes.
