The opposing effects of TNF-α and IL-4 on Cd83 expression were also evident in cultures of neonatal microglia, which strongly suggests a context-dependent regulation of Cd83 expression in murine microglia (Supplementary Fig. 2f). This notion was substantiated further with data from human microglia, which were generated from three different induced pluripotent stem cell lines (iPSCs). Again, we observed a strong induction of CD83 transcripts upon stimulation with IL-4 but not with TNF-α (Supplementary Fig. 2g).
