Text

All analyses were restricted to respondents ages 60+. Analyses of drinking status (lifetime abstention, former drinking, current drinking) pertain to the total population, whereas analyses of binge drinking and average volume pertain to current drinkers only. Respondents with missing information on drinking status were included in a separate category but are not shown in the results. Current drinkers with missing information on binge drinking were treated as non-binge drinkers. About 1% of current drinkers with missing information on either quantity or frequency were excluded from analyses of average volume. Analyses were performed separately for men and women using the combined 18-year NHIS data.
