In short, there is no evidence that a reduction in local connectivity alone could provoke schizophrenia. But it could be that the impoverishment model does not replicate schizophrenic pathology, eg, the defect of anatomical local connectivity could concern selective synapses such as gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) ones.58
