Serum cholesterol ester and triglyceride levels, which are each present in the various lipoprotein fractions (HDL, LDL and VLDL) exhibited different sensitivities to HFD and Cyp1b1 status (Table 1). Serum cholesterol esters paralleled the adiposity changes, in a manner that is typical of DIO [37]. Levels almost doubled in the WT mice challenged with the HFD, but were only minimally affected in the Cyp1b1-ko mice. Serum triglycerides increased by 45 percent in the WT mice switched to HFD. Increased triglyceride levels were also observed in Cyp1b1-ko mice, irrespective of diet. By contrast, serum free-fatty acids were unaffected by either diet or Cyp1b1 status.
