This study identified PND 4/5 as a critical period for ethanol exposure where the greatest deficits could be seen on a parallel bar task at PND 30 and 52, where the width between bars that the animal was required to cross over was gradually widened. This time point also produced the greatest decreases in cerebellar and brainstem weights at PND 55 (182). Others have shown that when ethanol is restricted to the postnatal period (intragastric ethanol PND 2–10), motor hyperactivity in rats persists into adulthood, at least until PND 91 (74).
