The risk of depression displays an interaction between 5-HTTLPR genotype (LL, LS, SS) and exposure to stress: namely, the 5-HTTLPR genotype shows no association to depression in individuals not exposed to stress, but shows a dose response effect (increased risk for more copies of the S allele) in individuals exposed to stress.
