We selected subjects from the GRECC Dementia Special Care Unit at the Bedford VA Hospital based on a clinical diagnosis of AD and the absence of other active medical problems. Some of them underwent brain imaging/PET scan to obtain more accurate diagnosis of AD. Brain tissues from two AD patients were obtained at autopsy, and neuropathological diagnosis of AD was confirmed (Table 1).
