1 in each experiment. This value was used to estimate the copy number for all other samples including the control sample with 2 copies. In quadruplicate assays run with the 2-copy control, transgene copy numbers ranged from 2.005 to 2.274 with an average value of 2.07. In order to determine copy number for our 4 β4/β-gal transgenic lines, 3 DNA samples from each line were run in qPCR experiments. The quantities derived from the standard curve for each set of 3 animals were averaged and then divided by the value for the 1-copy positive control.
