in the levels of one or both of the two best-characterized endocannabinoids, anandamide and 2-AG, mimic the abuse-related effects of THC. In humans, alterations in endocannabinoid concentrations may result from factors such as genetic variation in degradative enzyme levels (Sipe et al., 2002) or through stress-induced changes (Hill and McEwan, 2010). The present study examined the degree to which pharmacologically induced increases in anandamide and/or 2-AG concentrations through exogenous administration and/or systemic administration of FAAH or MAGL inhibitors, respectively, would share THC’s discriminative stimulus effects.
