All subjects reported no metal implants in head, no implanted electronic devices, no history of neurological problems or head injury, no skin sensitivity, no claustrophobia, not being pregnant, no current use of psychoactive medication, normal color vision, and normal or corrected-to-normal visual acuity. The Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) 47 was used to screen older subjects for dementia. All subjects scored in the normal range (24–30). Mean (± SD) MMSE scores were 28.9 ± 1.1 for older adults and 29.5 ± 0.9 for younger adults in Experiment 1, 29.0 ± 0.9 for older adults in Experiment 2, 29.6 ± 0.7 for younger adults in Experiment 3, and 29.3 ± 1.2 for younger adults in Experiment 4. The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) 48 was used to screen subjects for depression. No subjects met BDI-II criteria for depression (>13). Mean (± SD) BDI-II scores were 6.0 ± 5.2 for older adults and 6.1 ± 5.1 for younger adults from Experiment 1, 6.0 ± 4.8 for older adults from Experiment 2, 5.8 ± 4.9 for younger adults from Experiment 3, and 6.1 ±
