Our results provide evidence that common genetic variation in this region of CHRNA4 is associated with ND. Rare genetic variation in this region has also been associated with this trait (Wessel et al. 2010; Xie et al. 2011). Together these results demonstrate that both common and rare variation in this region of CHRNA4 is likely to influence ND.
