The four criteria listed above tend to have a stronger evidence base than any of the criteria in DSM-IV, and they should certainly be tested for inclusion in DSM-5. However, other criteria should also be tested for possible inclusion. For instance, we believe that two criteria from the DSM-IV should be modified to make them more appropriate for tobacco use, and then tested for possible inclusion in the DSM-V: viz.
