Our results are in line with previous studies reporting the involvement of alpha frequency in alexithymia. Indeed, the decrease of both EEG power and EEG connectivity in the alpha frequency band was previously detected in alexithymic subjects in response to emotional visual stimuli910. Due to the strong association between alpha frequency and cognitive processing related to external attention4950, it has been hypothesized that this neurophysiological pattern could reflect the externally-oriented thinking of alexithymic subjects9.
